Cultural-historical department
The department is formed by arts and crafts collections that are illustrating the rich material culture of the nobility and burgeois society in Poreč and its territory. The beginnings of the formation of the collection date back in the time of forming the museum itself, while collecting was being intensified in the period between the two world wars and after WWII.
Furniture collection
The majority of the collection is formed by furniture from various style periods (chests, tables, chairs, closets) that date back from the 17th to the 20th century while a smaller part consists of clocks and music instruments. The furniture mainly come from homes in Poreč and the surroundings. Among valuable examples we could list 18th century baroque armchairs and wall – tables that belonged to bishop Francesco Polesini or the 19th century furniture belonged to the noble family de Vergottini from Poreč.
Sculpture and old paintings collection
A small number of sculptures, inscriptions and reliefs are forming the collection while its nucleus is represented by old masters paintings from the 17th until the 20th century. 17th and 18th century portraits of the noble family Carli from Kopar are highlights of the collection. Other canvases include 18th and 19th century portraits of the Fachinetti family, a cycle of portraits of the pope from the 18th century and a big canvas The last supper painted by Francesco Fedrigazzi in the 18th century (a copy of the original work by Palma the younger, kept in the Poreč Diocese collection).
Collection of sacral objects
The collection of sacral objects consists of furniture found in churches of Poreč and the surroundings (Euphrasius basilica, Gospa od Brijega, Church of Virgin Mary), churches in Momjan as well as other objects with sacral thematics linked to the church and ecclesiastical history in Poreč (roseries, crucifixes, etc.)
Collection of textiles and fashion items
Here we keep objects related to personal hygiene, and a small part of fabrics as clothes that belonged to the Poreč noble family Polesini.
Collection of fine crafts
The majority of the items from the collection are vessels that had different functions and that were made from the 16th to the 20th century. Some of them were hotel dishes crafted in secessionist manner that were used in the first hotel in Poreč, Riviera. Other objects from the collection are stone, metal and ceramic made objects.
